Perfectly Perfect

Last night, we laid our Thanksgiving table with Subway napkins and faux mashed potatoes (cauliflower). It was perfectly perfect.

We traveled at the end of the last week and the beginning of this, returning home late (along with half of America), the day before Thanksgiving. Because of our travel schedule, we had an early Thanksgiving meal: the one with linen table clothes, where we’d indulged in real mashed potatoes and extra helpings of everything.

Consequently, by the time we got to Thanksgiving Day, we were all toast. The day was kickback and easy. We still made an extra effort, freshly grinding our coffee beans and making real whipped cream. But when I realized we were out of napkins and the thought of pulling out the cloth ones made me cringe, I was happy to remember we had napkins leftover from our road trip. Years ago this would have sent my tradition-loving heart stop. Yesterday, it made my heart skip a beat.

May the rest of your holiday weekend be filled with gratitude for the things that fill it with beauty and ease: be that a hostess who would never run out of napkins or a stash of fast food serviettes.

Happy Thanksgiving!

P.S. – A post about Black Friday.

P.P.S. – Christmas Unwrapped is starting soon.

  1. Eager to see what you do with Christmas Unwrapped...we've been keeping things relatively streamlined here, but it's not always easy!
