The Things That Are Saving My Life Right Now

Modern Mrs. Darcy is one of my favorite blogs. She’s calling February the cruelest month and consequently doing a link-up of Things That Are Saving My Life Right Now. This is very apropos for me given that of I am of the belief that nothing good can happen when I’m cold. Weak is the winter sun.

Here are the things helping to warm my winter days:

Setting Up the Coffee Maker The Night Before -  Our coffee maker has a time brew function, but when it’s cold not even wafting coffee smells can get me up - I need a reason to climb out of bed. By setting up the coffee maker but not turning it on, I’m forced to get up if I want coffee.

Bringing A Little Green Indoors – The trees are mostly bare but there are still clippings to be had. Little bursts of green (and red) make life cheerier even when skies are gray.

Using a space heater – This sounds obvious, but it took me a while to figure it out. I like to workout in the mornings because if I don’t then, I won’t. But I kept putting off working out because my body was sluggish and resistant to the cold. By adding a space heater, the room is warm and I have to come up with a new excuse not to work out.

Playing Hide and Glow Seek – It’s rained a lot. But the little people still need to jump and run. Hide and glow seek solves that problem. We give the hiders and the finders glow sticks. It’s fun for everyone (we introduced Mr. Scientist to this fun and he loved it!)

Drinking miso ginger broth – I love all of the new infused broths but this Trader Joe’s Miso Ginger Broth is my favorite. It’s good with tofu or just by the mugful.

Wearing These Target Moccasins – I’ve talked about these moccasins before, but I’ll say it again: far superior to slippers! Your feet will thank you.

Here’s to staying warm!

  2. Hide and Glow Seek sounds so fun! I should try that with my son. I have been wearing my L.L.Bean moccasins a lot too. I forgot to add those to my list.
